Summer Wrap

I realize that it is still August, but for all practical purposes summer is over. My summer has been filled with training and travel. I arrived in Fort Kent in early June and put in a very serious block of physical and shooting training. This was the biggest block I have ever done and I feel it will definitely pay off this winter. After some much needed recovery the Team and I headed to Jericho Vermont for a training camp.

Jericho was a good camp for me. I was happy with how I trained, and the races gave me a clear direction for my training in the fall. After Jericho the Biathlon and XC teams had a joint training camp at the Carrabassett Valley Academy in Sugarloaf Maine. I really enjoyed CVA, the scenery and the diverse training opportunities. Right now I am at home training and relaxing before the fall training cycle begins.

My name is Raleigh Goessling and I am very excited to be representing the Maine Winter Sports Center this year. I am 18 years old and a recent high school graduate. Outside of biathlon I enjoy making music and riding my mountain bike. I have been participated seriously in biathlon for 5 years and this will be my first season as a full time athlete. I am very fortunate to be able to pursue sport full time, and I would like to thank my parents, Maura and Steve Goessling, and the Maine Winter Sports Center for providing the support and encouragement necessary for me to be at my best. Some of the things I'm looking forward to most this year are: training camp in Soldier Hollow in October, early season skiing in Canada, and being a part of a successful team. This should be a fun and exciting season and I hope you check back to hear about it.
