One Week. One week till the start of the 2010 Junior National Championships. I'm excited, nervous, and thrilled that the competition will be here at home. The Nordic Heritage Center was completed in 2002, and since then I've enjoyed spending the majority of my training hours at this facility. This competition being here at home, had been in large part my reason for taking a second year off from school and to continue to train and compete with the Maine Winter Sports Center. With races starting in exactly one week, the training has been completed, nothing other than fine tuning, good eating, and solid rest will make a difference for these races. I hope to see many of you out, yelling and screaming, bring your cow bells, bring horns, anything that will make lots of noise, get excited. I am.

It has been a long time since my last post, so my apologies to those who are frequent mwsc blog readers. What have I been doing you may ask? Well, as many different things as I can. I came home from Alaska, a little sad, bummed, and not that excited about ski racing. I went on to compete at the following weekends eastern cup races in Rumford, which included a solid distance race, and perhaps my best of the season, but still I wasn't that excited about ski racing. So I came home, pretty tired at this point, and pretty sure that a lot of early season travel and racing had caught up with me.

What to do now? What ever I wanted was my answer. The racing season can be along one, and if you don't step back, gather yourself, and refocus once in a while, you may find yourself digging yourself a hole rather than climbing the ladder. Right?

I've spent the last 3 weeks or so not thinking about formal training, a year plan, or even ski racing. I spent my time working, " i work at mojo, bikes, skis, and kayaks, plus lots of other cool stuff", alpine skiing, some backcountry xc skiing, spending time with family, snowmobile tow rope skiing with my brotha, cheering on my little sister, getting the jeep stuck, and watching the saints win super bowl 44.

Was this the right thing to do? I cant be sure, its been over three weeks since i've raced or even moved at race past. I just started to throw myself at some more formal training, and it feels good, for the most part. I feel a little slow, but technically things have really come together, and mentally I may be stronger now than at any point this season. I'm excited to train, and excited to race, with my head in the right place, the body will come. Much more racing to come, check the results, and I'll do a better job of keeping you updated.
